Domenic Palermo of NOTHING, the trailblazing post-shoegaze band hailing from Philadelphia, launches a new music festival, SLIDE AWAY. The one-day extravaganza will unfold twice in March 2024, first in NOTHING’s hometown of Philadelphia and then in Los Angeles.
Shoegaze, dream pop, ambient, or whatever you may call it, is a type of music designed to explore the frontiers of sonic texture and often to do so loudly. A physical and emotional assault, you know it when you feel it. With a lineup that spans the boundary-pushing mavericks of yesterday with the genre-bending savants of today, SLIDE AWAY is a celebration of the artists who shape sound in the most unique of ways.
Both the Philadelphia and Los Angeles editions feature an exclusive performance of NOTHING’s seminal debut album Guilty Of Everything. Now considered one of the greatest shoegaze albums of all time, the performances mark the 10th anniversary of the album’s release and coincide with a vinyl repressing that commemorates this pivotal moment in the band’s history.
The Philadelphia edition also features the Boston-based 90s band Swirlies whose blend of lo-fi tape hiss, shoegaze, and dream pop have influenced countless bands since. Joining them is Lovesliescrushing, whose 1993 album bloweyelashwish and 1996 album xuvetyn are essential listening for anyone who appreciates experimental or ambient-leaning music. Mexico City’s Mint Field, Knifeplay, Astrobrite, Glixen, and more round out the bill.
In Los Angeles, NOTHING is joined by Tanukichan, the lauded Bay Area collaboration of Hannah van Loon and producer Chaz Bear of Toro Y Moi. Film School, which also hails from the Bay Area but with roots in the early aughts, is known for its psychedelic-leaning live show that conjures comparisons to Swervedriver and Catherine Wheel. Astrobrite, Mo Dotti, and more will also perform throughout the day in the lead-up to NOTHING’s Guilty Of Everything performance.
Attendees will enjoy a fully immersive audio design that positions them at the center of strategically mapped additions of amplifiers and subs to create the ultimate hyper-sensory experience. Both legendary venues are easily accessible through all forms of transportation, and complimentary hearing protection will be available at the doors.
