Maya de Vitry And Jessy Wilson Compare Notes

NPR released a piece yesterday, interviewing the two friends Maya de Vitry and Jessy Wilson about their respective careers first working in bands, and now going solo. The interview addresses the compromises of collaboration and its contrast with solo work. de Vitry, who was a fiddler and harmony singer of the Stray Birds, recounts a very “demanding, focused situation [of touring].” She confirms that singing and songwriting come easy to her, but being a ‘harmony singer’ was less preferable than songwriting. Her transition into a solo career enabled her to pursue songwriting further.
