Booker T. Jones recently sat down with Rolling Stone to talk about last week’s new release, his memoir Time is Tight. Jones asserts that he first began writing as a practice for songwriting. The interview addresses how the memoir details Jones’ “extensive formal music training at Indiana University”, while also elaborating on his experience at Stax Records. As head of an in-demand multiracial house band, Jones was part of a unique movement in the realms of soul, Motown and funk music – all while under label, commercial and musical pressures.
