“Alec MacKaye and his friends in D.C. were tapped into the raw power of punk’s first wave. Soon they were making their own music, first with seminal band The Untouchables, and later The Faith, inspiring countless other DC bands, including his brother lan’s. MacKaye’s DIY ethic has shaped both the scene and the sounds that define D.C. And now there’s Hammered Hulls, churning out powerful, urgent sounds. No surprise, the lineup is heavy.” – Thrasher Magazine / Joel Muzzey
“Easily my favorite album of the year is Careening by Hammered Hulls…a great piece of work.” – Henry Rollins KCRW radio / Black Flag
“A high-water mark has been redrawn. Hammered Hulls are for real.” – Guy Picciotto / FUGAZI
“Careening is f***ing awesome.…I cannot recommend the full LP enough.” – STEREOGUM / Tom Breihan
A new band of long-time players, Hammered Hulls’ music hews close to some of their early influences. Alec MacKaye is the voice, Mark Cisneros (Des Demonas/Kid Congo Powers and the Pink Monkey Birds/The Make-Up) is the guitarist, Brendan Canty (Fugazi/Rites of Spring/Messthetics) is on bass, and Chris Wilson (Ted Leo and the Pharmacists/Titus Andronicus/Open City) commands the drums. Each of them brings their individual imprint to the total sound. This concussion of strength upon strength, unified by vulnerable songs, only barely contained, is the signature sound of Hammered Hulls.
